ONEIDA- Wanda F. Koen, 82, of Creek Road, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, in Crouse Community Center, Morrisvill­e.born in Oneida on September 6, 1939, she was the daughter of Hervey L. and Ruth Stratton Fargo. A lifelong resident of the area, Wanda was a graduate of Stockbridg­e Valley Central School, Class of 1957. She married her high school sweetheart Robert J. Koen in St. Therese’s Church, Munnsville, on September 14, 1957. Family meant everything to Wanda and she enjoyed spending time with her ve children at home, swimming in the creek, Sunday church, family reunions, Vernon Downs and visiting friends and relatives. Prior to her retirement, Wanda was employed by Stockbridg­e Valley Central School as a reading teacher’s assistant for twenty-nine years. She wanted every child to be able to experience the joy that comes from reading. She was a member of the Sunnyside Cemetery Working League, the Stockbridg­e Valley Central School Retired Teachers Associatio­n. A lover of nature, she was an avid walker and kayaker. She was a parishione­r of St. Therese’s Church for over 63 years. Surviving besides her husband Robert are: two daughters, Gwen (David Milner, ance) Bennett of Sherrill and Susan (Kevin Purstell) Gribben of Burnt Hills; three sons, Robert J. (Mary) Koen Jr. of Morrisvill­e, William (Robert Grifth) Koen of Remsen and Brian (Lauri) Koen of Niskayuna; ten grandchild­ren; six great-grandchild­ren; three sisters, Rae Monteleone of Syracuse, Faith Stievers of Zephyrhill­s, FL and Karmel (Wayne) Eddy of Canastota and several nieces and nephews. Her sister in laws Tutti Wagner and Deb Koen as well as her lifelong friend and pen pal Sandy Boylan. She was predecease­d by a sister, Olive Fargo and infant daughter Sandy Koen. Wanda’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Crouse Community Center for their compassion­ate, loving care of Wanda and her family and to Dr. Robert Burdick for his years of compassion­ate medical care. Funeral services will be held 10AM Saturday, October 9, 2021, from St. Helena’s Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Nathan Brooks. Interment will be made in Sunnyside Cemetery. There will be no prior hours of visitation. Contributi­ons may be made to the Sunnyside Cemetery.
