Oneida City Police are investigating an alleged robbery that happened on Madison Street this morning.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3 at about 8:13 a.m. police responded to a report of an in-progress robbery with a firearm at a store in the 100 block of Madison Street. Further information indicated the involved parties fled the store to a nearby apartment building.

Members from the City of Oneida Police Department responded along with the New York State Police and Madison County Sheriff’s Office. A very short time later police located the described persons who were then detained and there was no longer an active threat. No gun was displayed during this incident.

Oneida Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

“We are still working on the case,” Oneida Police Chief John Little said. “We had received a report of a possible armed robbery and we responded very quickly. It turns out a gun was not displayed, but I believe more charges may be filed.”

At this time Joseph Love, 28, of Oneida has been charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony; second-degree aggravated harassment, a class A misdemeanor; second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a class A misdemeanor; third-degree criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor and third-degree criminal tampering, a class B misdemeanor. He has been transported to the Madison County centralized arraignment facility.

“There was an individual who accompanied Love but we eliminated him as a suspect,” Little said. “It’s possible he may be charged as the investigation continues.”

More details to follow as the investigation unfolds. Anyone with information related to this, or any other crime, are asked to call the City of Oneida Police Department at 315-363-2323.

“If anyone has information don’t hesitate to reach out,” Little said.
