Four rescued from burning boat offshore

- ANDREW MARRA

Passengers had to abandon a boat off the coast at Boca Raton early Saturday morning after it caught fire, a boat towing company said. The owner of the 38-foot boat radioed for help about 1 a.m. after a fire broke out in the boat’s engine room several miles offshore, WPTV-NewsChannel 5 reported. A marine towing boat from Tow Boat U.S. Fort Lauderdale came to the rescue, removing the passengers and bringing the vessel to shore, according to Ryan Little, a towing boat captain. The towing company beached the boat in Lake Boca Raton so Boca Raton Fire-Rescue could extinguish the flames. No one was injured.
