Long before chainsawtoting maniacs became a staple of Halloween haunted houses, Leatherface was torturing poor Sally and Franklin Hardesty in 1974’s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Local film buffs will get a chance to see Tobe Hooper’s controversial slasher flick the way it was meant to be seen — with a screaming audience sharing in the terror — when Morbid Movies screens the fully restored “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Movies of Lake Worth.

This will mark the third event in the group’s Palm Beach County Grindhouse Series.

In April, Morbid Movies showed Kinji Fukasaku’s “Battle Royale,” followed by a June screening of Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead 2.” Organizers say the cult-movie series will become a monthly event this fall.

“Chainsaw” tickets are $10. Movies of Lake Worth is at 7380 Lake Worth Road and can be reached at 561-968-4545.
