The Palm Beach Post received two first-place awards last month in the Florida Society of News Editors 2015 journalism awards.

Reporter Pat Beall took first in investigative reporting for “Dying for Care,” her stories that revealed rising inmate deaths and state prisoners treated for cancer with Tylenol as part of a statewide push to privatize prison medical care.

Presentation Editor Rebecca Vaughan won first place for page design for her work on three special sections: a D-Day package, “Season to Share” and “Gaming the Lottery.”

The Post, competing in the A Division for the largest newspapers in Florida, also took home secondplace finishes in two categories. In breaking news, a team of reporters were honored for “Deadly Deluge,” their coverage of a freak January 2014 storm. The reporters were Pat Beall, Christine Stapleton, Jorge Milian, Tony Doris, Eliot Kleinberg, Alexandra Seltzer, Sonja Isger and Jason Schultz.

The Post also took second place for innovation that drives digital engagement with PBPostNow, a daily online summary of top news stories, delivered in a variety of ways. The award went to web editors Samantha Ragland, Dan Scapusio, Nathan Hall and Mike Denison.

Post columnist Frank Cerabino finished third in column writing; reporter Barbara Marshall took third for features and arts writing for “Classified Kids,” her effort to track family members split in childhood when their parents put them up for adoption in a newspaper classified ad; and Stacey Singer took third for “Supergerms” in the community leadership category for stories detailing the onset of drug-resistant germs.
