‘Wait and see’ on concussed RGIII

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III suffered a concussion in Thursday night’s preseason game and the timetable for his return is unknown.

Griffin, under constant pressure by the Detroit Lions’ defense on almost every pass play, left the game in the second quarter of the Redskins’ 21-17 victory. He suffered a stinger in his shoulder as well, but apparently that injury was not a concern.

“We’ll have to see,” coach Jay Gruden said when asked how much time Griffin would miss. “I would imagine, depending on how long he is out, he is still going to be our starter. We have to wait and go through the whole process and see how he recovers; see how fast he recovers. I have no idea as far as the third preseason game, fourth one, right now.”

The NFL’s concussion protocol, which Griffin is in, does not specify a time frame for a player’s return. The fourthyear quarterback will be reassessed and must be approved to return by an independent neurologist.

Meanwhile, special teams player and linebacker Adam Hayward suffered a season-ending knee injury in the game against the Lions, according to multiple reports. Hayward, the Redskins’ special teams captain last season, tore his right ACL.

On Friday, Redskins acquired tight end Derek Carrier from the 49ers for an undisclosed draft choice.

Browns: Josh McCown’s right ring finger isn’t badly injured. Still, the Browns won’t let him raise his index finger just yet. McCown will not miss any practice time after hurting the finger on his throwing hand during an exhibition loss Thursday night to Buffalo. McCown threw interceptions on Cleveland’s first two drives, raising questions about whether backup Johnny Manziel, who threw a touchdown pass and made a sensational play, was threatening to jump him on the depth chart.

But coach Mike Pettine said that Cleveland’s depth chart remains unchanged.

“We feel good about where Johnny is as the No. 2 and we feel good about where Josh is with the No. 1,” Pettine said.

Seahawks: Former Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis reportedly will take a visit to Seattle today. The Dolphins and Jets reportedly had shown the most interest in the former Eagles standout.

Bills: Wide receiver Chris Hogan suffered a knee sprain during Thursday’s game in Cleveland and will miss two to four weeks, according to The Buffalo News.

Steelers: Cornerback Senquez Golson, a second-round draft pick, will be out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery, coach Mike Tomlin said.

Lions: Sixth-year safety Taylor Mays was cut, NFL Media reported.

Colts: Signed offensive lineman Harland Gunn and waived undrafted rookie receiver L.T. Smith.
