City police pay tribute to memory of detective
WEST PALM BEACH — Cit y police honored the memory of Detective Mark Bennett, who died July 15 after a two-year bout with cancer.
Bennett , a 48-ye ar- old Atlantis resident, worked for the department for 24 years as a detective assigned to the Computer Forensic Computer Examiner Unit, as well as a bomb technician.
“Throughout a 24-year career, he served the department and city with honor and distinction,” his online obituary said.
Prior to that, he serviced with the U.S. Army with the 65th Military Police Company in Fort Bragg, N.C., from 1986 to 1989. He also had assignments in Panama and Honduras.
The South Florida native was buried at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, off State Road 7. The service will include honors from the U.S. Army and West Palm Beach Police Department.
Bennett is survived by his wife, Kimberly; two sons, Max, 2 3, a n d J u s t i n , 1 0; two sisters, Nancy Lea and Tammy Lynne; and many extended family members, according to his obituary.
Rather than flowers, Bennett’s family asks that contributions be made to Reveal Fellowship Church on Lake Worth Road west of Florida’s Turnpike or to the Treu Families Go Fund Me Account, whose two children are recovering from chemotherapy and bone-marrow transplants.
