Convicted felon in stolen car films police chase

A convicted felon sitting in the back of a stolen car used his cell phone to film as the vehicle reached 100 mph while being pursued by at least two police agencies, according to an arrest report.

Whil e Ant o n i o Anderson was being arrested, he received a notificati­on that the video had been shared by one of his Facebook friends.

Officers watched as Anderson allegedly talked on Facebook about tossing a firearm out of the window and then urged the stolen vehicle’s driver to ram a patrol car.

Anderson, of West Palm Beach, is facing charges two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count each of carrying a prohibited weapon, destroying evidence and possession of burglary tools. The 19-year-old is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A l l e ge d d r i v e r S t e v e n Joseph, of Lake Worth, is facing several charges includ- ing motor vehicle theft and fleeing and eluding without regard to safety and is being held in lieu of $11,000 bail.

Juno Beach police tried to pull over a Nissan speeding on the 13600 block of U.S Highway 1 at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the report said.

The Ni s s a n eve nt u a l ly reached 100 mph on a section of Indiantown Road with a 45 mph speed limit.

Juno Beach police gave up the chase but the Nissan was spotted by Jupiter police more than an hour later. With police in pursuit, the Nissan drove on the wrong side of Military Trail into oncoming traffic, the report said.

While fleeing police, a backseat passenger, later identified as Anderson, threw a firearm from the window.

The ve hi c l e c a me t o a stop in Palm Beach Gardens where Joseph and Anderson were arrested. Burglary tools, marijuana and ammunition were found in the car, the repor t said. The gun Anderson allegedly tossed was found by Palm Beach Gardens police.

State records show that Anderson was convicted of motor vehicle theft and grand theft in October 2014 and served nearly nine months in jail before he was released in August 2015.
