Man jailed for shooting faces new charges

A 22-year-old man who was already in custody for a shooting this summer now faces new charges in a 2015 slaying, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office.

Tevin Tookes faces charges of second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon. Tookes is charged in the Jan. 19, 2015, slaying of 49-year-old Miguel Santiago, who was found with several gunshot wounds on the 8000 block of Ambach Way near Lantana. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

The sheriff ’s office did not go into details about how Tookes was identified as the shooter. An arrest report in the case was not available Friday afternoon.

Santiago was one of 109 c o nf i r med homic i de s i n Palm Beach County in 2015, according to a Palm Beach Post database.

Tookes is already in cust o d y a t t h e P a l m B e a c h C o u n t y j a i l f o r a n o t h e r shooting in July. Boynton Beach police say Tookes was approached by a 40-yearold man asking for money outside of the EZ Mart, near Northeast 10th Avenue and Seacrest Boulevard. Tookes brushed him off, but then got into his car, drove around and shot the man below the knee, according to police.

The man was injured but survived, according to police.
