SICK KIDS TAKE SWING AT GOLF

Golf room aims to take children’s minds off illness

What’s your handic ap? It doesn’t matter at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital, where PGA pros visit a new golf room to instruc t patients on the basics.

The hospital recently took a room on its third floor and added photographic wallpaper and “grass” tiles to give it the look and feel of a golf course. The new look ups the ante for a popular program that started at the hospital in 2010, called Smiling Fore Life.

The teaching pros, from PGA of America South Florida, come every Wednesday, from 1:303:30 p.m.

The program used to take place in the hospital’s pediatric wing, but CEO Gabrielle Finley-Hazle wanted to create a spot where the children didn’t feel as if they were in a hospital setting.

Palm Beach Children’s is one of five hospitals where South Florida PGA conducts the program, to help keep the children’s minds off their hardships.
