Singletary, Whyte among Owls honored by C-USA

A pair of former Pal m Beach Count y standouts are among three FAU football players named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team, and senior end Trey Hendrickso­n was named to the fifirst- team defense.

K i c k r e t u r n e r Ke r r i t h Whyte of Seminole Ridge and running back Devin Singletary of American Heritage joined wide receiver Harrison Bryant of Gary, Ga., on the team released Tuesday.

He fifinished with 1,021 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, including a school-recored 257-yard performanc­e against Rice.

Singlet ar y bec ame the fifirst Owls freshman in the program’s 16-year history to break the 1,000-yard rushing mark, and he is just the third FAU player to accomplish that feat.

Whyte played in 11 games this season. He fifinished with 1,002 return yards, which is second all-time in program history behind DiIvory Edgecomb’s 1,155 in 2007. Whyte ended the regular season ranked No. 3 nationally in combined kick return yardage, and No. 1 in USA. His 25.7-yard kick return average ranked No. 21 nationally and No. 3 among C-USA players.

Hendrickso­n, who was voted Owls MVP by teammates, was second in the conference with 9.5 sacks and had 50 tackles (15 for loss). He fifinished as FAU’s career leader in multiple categories, including sacks (29.5) and tackles for loss (42.5).

Singlet ar y, Whyte and safety Jalen Young (Seminole Ridge) were among the 10 FAU players who received honorable mention all-conference status. Young had 100 tackles, two intercepti­ons, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.

Florida: Cornerback Teez Tabor was the lone Gator to make fifirst- team All-Southeaste­rn Conference in voting by coaches. Tabor, a repeat fifirst-team pick, had four intercepti­ons — including one for a touchdown — fifive pass breakups, 32 tackles and recovered a fumble.

Martez Ivey (offensive tackle), Caleb Brantley (defens ive t ackle), Jarrad Davi s (linebacker), Quinc y Wilson (cornerback) Johnny Townsend (punter) received second-team honors.
