TALLAHASSEE — Jimbo Fi sher lauded Florida State University President John Thrasher on Tuesday for “seeing the big picture” the day after the school announced the coach’s contract extension.

Fisher, 77-17 in seven seasons at Florida State, signed a two-year extension that will keep him at the school through the 2024 season. It is the second time in two years Fisher has had his contract redone by Thrasher.

“We’ve built something really special, and I want to continue it for a long time,” Fisher said. “I think President Thrasher has been awesome with that and seeing the big picture with everything that goes on. He loves it and understands what we do. We understand our importance to this university, too, and how we represent it and things that go on.” BOCA RATON — The last time Western Kentucky played at FAU Stadium, it scored 52 points and outscored Florida Atlantic by 49 points in October.

T h e H i l l t o p p e r s a l m o s t matched that output Tuesday night, beating Memphis 51-31 in the Boca Raton Bowl.

“That’s what our theme was,” interim coach Nick Holt said. “We were going to attack and not hold back and really play like we always play.”

WKU came into the game ranked second in the nation in scoring offffffffffffense. After starting with a three-and-out, the Hilltoppers played to their reputation, racking up 598 yards.

The Tigers (8-5) scored the game’s first touchdown on a 45-yard pass from Riley Ferguson to running back Tony Pollard, but it was all Hilltoppers from there. Three minutes of game time later, WKU (11-3) tied it up on a 4-yard pass from Fort Lauderdale native Mike White to Stevie Donatell.

The Hilltoppers broke out a couple of trick plays.

Down 10-7 after Jake Elliot kicked a 33-yard fifield goal, WKU was threatening inside the Memphis 10-yard line. Instead of dialing up a traditional play call, the Hilltoppers called Forrest Lamp’s number. Lamp, a 300pound offffffffffffensive lineman, took a backward pass from White and sprinted the 9 yards to the end zone for his fifirst college touchdown.
