Reed, late free throws propel Miami to victory

Davo n Re e d s c o re d 17 points to lead the host Miami Hurricanes to a 72-64 victory over George Washington on Thursday night.

Miami (9-2) secured the victory with eight free throws in the final 41 seconds. Reed’s two free throws with 5.9 seconds left gave Miami its final margin.

JaQuan Newton finished with 14 points and Bruce Brown had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Hurricanes (9-2). Ebuka Izundu added 12 points.

Yuta Watanabe scored 15 points to lead the Colonials (8-5).

The v i c t o r y i n c re a s e d Miami’s winning streak to five and snapped George Washington’s three-game winning streak.

Reed bec ame the 37th player in Hurricanes history to reach 1,000 points after his dunk with 5:45 remaining in the second half.

The Hurricanes are off until Wednesday, when they close their nonconfere­nce schedule at home against Columbia.

USF 81, Delaware 53: Tulio Da Silva had 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench, leading the Bulls (6-5) to the rout of the Blue Hens (6-6) in Tampa. Geno Thorpe added 18 points and Brad Zeigler was also in double figures with 10 points for USF. Ryan Daly scored 17 points and Chivarsky Corbett added 15 for Delaware. USF made 49 percent of its shots (26 of 53) while holding Delaware to just 27 percent shooting (18 of 66).
