Lack of business forces Hoffman’s in downtown Lake Worth to close
LAKE WORTH — Eve r yo n e , i t seems, who visited the Hoffman’s Chocolates in downtown Lake Worth has a favorite memory of the gourmet chocolatier.
For Nadine Burns, it was taking her 6-year-old granddaughter to a candy-making class last year.
“She loved playing with the candy,” Burns said. “And she got to wear a chef ’s apron.”
For Christopher Fleming, it was all about the chocolate-covered pretzels.
“I loved that the store was local and was about all things choco- late,” Fleming said.
Sally Welsh couldn’t get enough of the ice cream.
“It’s the best in the world,” she said.
Those memories are even more special now.
After Saturday, Hoffman’s Chocolate’s on 705 Lake Ave. will be closed for good.
The main reason: not enough business.
“We really haven’t seen a lot of foot traffic,” said Anna Hutchinson, an intermediate manager at the store, which opened in 2013. “Our sales have been down 50 percent the past four years. Randall Vitale, a regional sales vice president at Hoffman’s, was not available to comment.
All six employees at the Lake Avenue store have been offered jobs at other Hoffman’s locations, Hutchinson said.
