Boynton woman arrested on animal cruelty charges
Only twice in three weeks did Bella get food and water.
When veterinarians saw the poodle mix in mid-July, she was s eve re ly underweight and about to die, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control records show.
The dog’s owner, Jolene Clairvoyant, had been on offifficials’ radar since 2014, when a pit bull puppy in her care was reportedly left in a feces- fifilled cage in a Wellington backyard.
Clairvoyant was arrested Jan. 6 on ani mal c r uel t y c h a r g e s f o r h e r a l l e g e d mistreatment of Bella, and released from the county jail on a $3,000 bond the next day. Records show she now lives in Boynton Beach.
Clairvoyant, 20, told offifficials her teenage brother wat c h e d B e l l a f o r t h r e e weeks while she was in Haiti. When she returned in midJuly, she took Bella to a veterinary hospital because the dog was vomiting and had blood in its stool, she said.
Clairvoyant eventually told offifficials she had never gone to Haiti. They never were able to make contact with her brother, records show.
Clairvoyant’s arrest report alleges she “has a history of being irresponsible when it comes to the welfare of animals” and “fails to provide basic care.”
Bella was adopted by a family in October, said Capt. David Walesky of Animal Care and Control.
