Italian gelato chain opens 1st U.S. location in Boca Raton
Shop offers unique flavors like ‘Bud Light’ and ‘Chocolate Bacon.’
La Gelateria della Musica is known in Italy for strange and popular ice cream concoctions like Bread, Butter & Jam or flavors like Bud Light and Chocolate Bacon. For a while, you couldn’t find anything like it outside Italy.
That is until Fabio Brigliadoro, the owner of the La Gelateria chain, decided to open up his first shop across the Atlantic in Boca Raton.
“We did a little research starting from Miami, and when we found this place in Boca, we said, ‘This is it. This is the right place,’ ” Brigliadoro said. The personality and vibe of Palm Beach County, and Boca Raton in particular, appealed to Brigliadoro and his partners, former customers in Italy, who will run the location.
There are nine La Gelaterias in Italy, Brigliadoro said. You’ll find the small original shop in Milan in many Italian guidebooks and travel blogs, as it’s a popular tourist destination.
“There’s always a 200-meter (line) outside the shop, every day,” he said.
Brigliadoro opened the first ice cream and sorbet shop in 2008 when he sought to experiment with new flavors. The shops, including the Boca location, make all gelato and sorbet from scratch.
The most popular, he said, is the Bread, Butter & Jam flavor. You can see and taste the chunks of bread inside the ice cream, which patrons seem to love, Brigliadoro said.
“You can feel every single flavor and it’s incredible,” Brigliadoro said.
