Man accused of stealing cat food, vacuums

Deputies say he was taped taking items from Target stores.

A 46-year-old man was arrested this month after i nve s t i g a t or s s ay he was caught on surveillan­ce video stealing vacuums, cat food and other household items from Target stores in western Palm Beach County during the past few months.

David Gillotti of Greenacres faces several charges of theft and remained at the Palm Beach County Jail on Sunday afternoon on $64,000 bail. Gillotti was arrested on Jan. 10 in connection with eight open theft cases that go back as far as August, according to court records.

In the most recent cases, Gillotti focused on Target s t o r e s a n d s t e a l i n g v a c - uums, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office reports.

On Oct. 12, Gillotti was recorded putting a mixer, a robotic vacuum, a coffee maker and a 10-pound-bag of cat food in a shopping cart at the Super Target store on State Road 7 just north of Lantana Road. A Target employee stopped Gillotti as he tried to leave and asked to see his receipt. At that point, Gillotti left the cart, said nothing and walked to his vehicle.

On Nov. 7, Gillotti was at the Super Target in Royal Palm Beach, on Okeechobee Boulevard just west of State Road 7, where he and a second person who was not identified were filmed grabbing a Roomba robot vacuum and cat food, then leaving the store without paying, investigat­ors say. Two days later, he returned to the store, grabbed two Roombas and two other vacuums and another bag of cat food, investigat­ors say, for a total of nearly $1,200 in merchandis­e.

On Jan. 5, Gillotti was at the Hagen Ranch Road Target in suburban Boynton Beach, where he changed his household items up, taking two Kitchen-Aid mixers, four boxes of knives and four pillows, investigat­ors say. Deputies estimated said the total cost was more than $1,200.

On Jan. 8, Gillotti was seen at the Royal Palm Beach Target again placing a Dyson vacuum in his shopping cart, leaving the area, then coming back and grabbing two more Dyson vacuums and two Shark Rocket vacuums, for a total of $1,580 in items, according to deputies.

The next day he returned to the store, stole two more vacuums for a total of $998 and walked out of the store again, according to deputies. The next day, he went back to the Target and grabbed two more vacuums worth nearly $1,000.

Nearly every time Gillotti was captured on video stealing items, Target loss-prevention officers recognized him from past incidents, according to reports.

He was also arrested in July and February on theft charges. He served less than three months in prison on grand theft charges between 2007 and 2008, according to Florida Department of Correction­s records.
