Race for Faith benefits local charities

Annual event offers 5K and 10K runs plus a kids’ fun dash.

The 14th annual Race for Faith 5K, 10K run/walk and free kids 100-yard fun dash is scheduled for at 6 a.m. today in John Prince Park in Lake Worth.

So far, the organizers say they have raised $73,000 for a handful of area charities.

Two participan­ts, Sheryl Wilkie and Diana Phelps, said they were looking for- ward to today’s events.

“Neither of us are what you might call, ‘runners,’ but we will give anything a go,” said Wilkie.

Added Phelps: “After our first Race for Faith run in 2011, we couldn’t wait to do it again.”

S i g n - u p s a n d p a c k e t pick-up be gin the day of the race at 6 a.m. with the 5K and 10K race/walk to follow beginning at 7:30 and the kids 100-yard fun dash beginning at 9:15.

The listing of the events for the Race for Faith include the 5K run/walk, 10K challenge, kids dash (8 years and younger) and an award cer- emony, including giveaways and food.

“We are both over 50 years old — one of very 50 — and both grandmothe­rs,” Wilkie said.

“We feel extremely blessed to have strong healthy bodies which enable us to participat­e in an event such as Race for Faith and others,” said Phelps.

The Race for Faith hosts the event to benefit many local charities such as Hospice of Palm Beach County, Genesis Assistance Dogs, First Priority South Florida, Team World Vision, Urban Youth Impact Dream Center, Veteran’s Support Organizati­on, C.R.O.S.S. Ministries and Food Pantry.
