FSU coach Martin gets 1,900th career victory

Florida State coach Mike Martin earned the 1,900th win of his 38-year c areer Sunday as the Seminoles (2-1) beat VCU (1-2) 11-3 at Dick Howser Stadium.

Martin is the active wins leader and just the second in the sport’s history to reach 1,900 career wins. He is 75 wins behind Augie Garrido for the most all-time in college baseball.

“Ever y single coach in our locker room has a lot to do with what has transpired in this program the last 38 years,” Martin said of the milestone. “It’s been a great ride.”

Florida 11, William & Mary 6: Florida (3-0) used a trio of home runs and a strong start from Jackson Kowar to sweep its opening weekend against William & Mary.

Kowar racked up 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings with one earned run allowed. Freshmen Keenan Bell and Austin Langworthy and sophomore Deacon Liput hit the home runs.

Rutgers 17, Miami 6: The Hurricanes dropped their opening series finale to Rutgers at Mark Light Field.

Miami (2-1) staged two separate rallies but was unable to overcome a sizable early deficit. The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak against the Scarlet Knights.
