Goldendoodle won’t be going to White House

Lois Pope still is willing to give President Donald Trump a fifirst dog, but it won’t be the goldendoodle she originally offffffffffffered him.

Pope offered the first family Patton, a rescue who’s now 5 months old and 42 pounds. She hoped Patton could act as security and help Trump’s youngest child Barron adjust to his new life as the fifirst son.

S he f i r s t s ug ge s t e d Tr ump take Patton when she saw him at Thanksgiving dinner at Mara-Lago. Trump told her to show him to Barron and the boy was smitten, but the plans fell through.

Pope, a Palm Beach philanthropist, said Wednesday that she never heard back from Trump and now she’s grown attached to Patton. “I have fallen in love with the dog,” she said.

“The fact is, it turns out well for (Trump) and me. Who would take care of the dog?” she said. “Where would the dog be in all this?” citing Trump’s busy schedule.

Patton, named after World War II Gen. George Patton, now fifits in with the other 10 dogs Pope has in her Manalapan home.

“He is so funny with all these little dogs, but they all get along,” she said. “I have one who’s a little Yorkie and he chases him all over.”

Pope plans to bring Patton to the American Humane Association fundraiser at Mar- a- Lago on Wednesday. Pope’s LIFE Foundation, which promotes veteran and animal welfare, is a partner in this week’s event.

The sixth annual Hero Dogs Gala luncheon will honor last year’s Hero Dog award winner Hooch, a French Mastiffff who was abused and now serves as a therapy dog, and other award-winning dogs, she said. Although Trump didn’t take her up on her offffffffffffer, maybe bringing dogs to Trump’s winter White House will change his mind.

“I thought ever y president needs a dog,” Pope said. “If he needs a dog, I will be happy to give him one.”
