Tallahasse­e crash kills ex-PB Lakes linebacker

Palm Beach Lakes is mourning 2016 graduate and former linebacker Guy Demosthene, killed in a car accident Saturday night in Tallahasse­e.

Demosthene, 20, was a passenger in a car that hit a tree after the driver swerved to avoid a vehicle that pulled out in front of it, according to WCTV.tv. Demosthene, along with the driver and two other passengers, was transporte­d to Tallahasse­e Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

The 6-foot, 230-pound Demosthene was a starting linebacker for Palm Beach Lakes in coach Al Shipman’s first season as head coach in 2015.

“He was a fun-loving young man in life, but a ferocious player on the fifield,” Shipman said. “He will be sorely missed by his family, peers and former teammates.”

Demosthene’s coaches, f r i e n d s a n d t e a m m a t e s mourned h i s p a s s i n g v i a Twitter on Sunday. Demosthene was a student in Tallahasse­e, according to Palm Beach Lakes Athletic Director Keith Marshall.

Softball Games of the Week: No. 4 Royal Palm Beach (7-1) at No. 3 Wellington (8- 7 p.m. Wednesday: The Wolverines follow their Monday game against Coral Springs Charter with another tough one at home against the Wildcats. The Lions have improved greatly in recent seasons under coach Cindy Lucia and are off to one of their strongest starts in years.
