First, police say, Traynard Johnson stole a car at gunpoint from a woman who is six months pregnant, then he shot at Boynton Beach police officers who chased him.

J o h n s o n , 3 0 , f a c e s attempted murder, weapon offense and armed carjacking charges. He was arrested late Sunday and refused his first appearance before a judge Monday morning. He likely will appear in court for a bond hearing today.

A woman told police she was in the driver’s seat of a blue 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier at about noon Sunday parked outside a home on Northwest 12th Avenue in Boynton Beach while her passenger was inside the house.

As she waited, she told p o l i c e , Jo h n s o n o p e n e d the passenger door and sat down.

He had a gun in his waistband and demanded the woman drive police said.

She refused and jumped out of the car. Johnson slid over to the driver’s seat and fled west on Northwest 12th Avenue, police said. The woman’s phone and wallet were inside the car, she said.

She borrowed someone’s phone to call 911.

A Boynton police officer drove up to the woman and she waved the officer toward the stolen car. As the Cavalier passed the patrol car, a shot was fired, police said.

The officer followed the Cavalier, which was swerving through lanes. The car jumped a curb and hit a pole on Northwest Fifth Street, t h e n s p u n a n d s t o p p e d near Barton Memorial Park, records show.

Johnson, who told police he lives in the northern part of the city, exited the car with his hands up but refused to follow officers’ orders. He eventually ran, reaching toward his waistband along the way.

Two officers were able to catch him. He had an empty gun holster on his waistband.

“You will see me again ... Next time it won’t be good for you,” Johnson told the officers, the report said.

“Yo u g u y s k i l l e d my brother and I wish I would have killed one of you guys,” he reportedly said, adding “If I can, I’m gonna kill 18 more of you.”

Police found a .45- c aliber handgun in the car. The chamber was empty. Officers found a bullet hole in the rear-driver’s side door of one of the patrol c ars. A light green Dodge Caravan parked on Northwest 12th Avenue also was hit by a bullet.

Johnson had been released March 3 from the Palm Beach County Jail after serving six months on drug possession and trespassing convictions, records show. He faces an additional charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
