Argu a bly t he top 2 01 8 player in Palm Beach County plans to stay close to home next year.

Palm Beach Lakes safety and wide receiver Gurvan Hall, who 247Sports ranks as a four-star prospect and the No. 11 safety in his class, announced via Twitter Monday night that he has committed to the Miami Hurricanes.

Hall, a fifirst- team All-Area pick as a junior, had a bevy of other offers to choose from, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Ohio State. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban even flflew in by helicopter to meet with his mother, grandmother and coach Al Shipman.

“With his ability to return punts and line up at receiver, you’ve got a kid who can do some specialty trick plays,” Shipman said t he day of Saban’s visit. “He’s athletic enough to line up at corner and play safety. I think the versatilit y, along with his upside, is what they’re looking at.”

Hall’s decision comes right after the Hurricanes lost a commitment from another t o p P a l m B e a c h C o u n t y defensive back, Palm Beach Central’s 2019 star Akeem Dent, who announced the news on Twitter Monday afternoon.

Hall had a dominant junior season. When lining up as a receiver, he had 23 catches for 457 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, he had 87 tackles, including 13 for a loss, fifive interceptions and four forced fumbles. He also returned two punts and one kickoffff for touchdowns.

Hall will join former Palm Beach Gardens star Amari Carter in the Hurricanes’ secondary.

Dent currently holds offffffffffffers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and more, and he likely will receive more offffffffffffers now that he has re-opened his recruitment.

Dent committed to the Hur r i c a n e s i n J u l y 2 0 1 6 before having a strong sophomore season and helping lead Pahokee to the Class 1A state title game before the team was stripped of the championship. He was a second-team All-Area selection.

After the se ason, Dent transferred from Pahokee to Palm Beach Central. The Broncos will be the third team Dent has played for, after spending his sophomore year at Pahokee and his freshman season at Royal Palm Beach.

“He’s the fastest kid on the team,” Pahokee coach Orson Walke s s a i d l a s t s e a s on. “With hi s size at corner, he’s kind of an intimidating presence.”
