David Price threw out to 120 feet Saturday in what Boston manager John Farrell described as “another consistent work day” for the left-hander, who is recovering from an elbow strain.

Farrell said Price threw with increments at 60, 90 and 120 feet before the Red Sox faced the Detroit Tigers.

Boston fielded a shorthanded lineup. Several players have been ill recently.

“T h e r e ’s t h r e e d i f f e r - ent things that are going around,” Farrell said. “One’s a respiratory one, one’s flulike symptoms, and one is the full-blown flu.”

Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez did not start. R e l i e v e r J o e K e l l y w a s unavailable.

Cubs: Second baseman Javier Baez was back in the lineup at Milwaukee a day after he was injured in an outfield collision. Baez was bruised around his left eye when he collided with center fielder Jason Heyward on Friday night and left the game. On Saturday, he assured manager Joe Maddon he could see properly.

Cardinals: Right-hander Trevor Rosenthal (right lat strain) threw 20 pitches to hitters Saturday and could be activated from the 10-day disabled list by Monday.

Tigers: Left-hander Kyle Ryan was activated from the paternity list Saturday and made it through a scoreless eighth inning. He had an ordeal getting from Florida to Detroit, though. “His flight got canceled last night,” Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said before the game. “They c oul dn’t f i nd a ny flights to Detroit until Monday, so he flew to Columbus and he’s currently in a car.” Ryan said he took a car service from Ohio to Detroit.

Twins: First baseman Joe Mauer was back in the lineup Saturday after sitting out Friday, and, in part due to his injury history, more rest is likely in his future.

Astros: Carlos Beltran’s RBI double in the seventh inning Friday gave him 1,537 RBIs in his career, tying him with Joe DiMaggio for 49th place in MLB history.

Reds: Right-hander Austin Brice (ulnar nerve inflammation, right elbow) made his first rehab appearance for Pensacola on Friday, striking out two in a 13-pitch inning.

Rays: Shortstop Matt Duffy (Achilles surgery) could start a running program in about 10 days. He’s been doing flexibility drills in the outfield.
