LANTANA — The family of a 7-year- old L ant ana boy struck and killed by a tow truck Wednesday night has created an online account to help pay for his funeral Tuesday.

Jordan Johnson died late Wednesday — three days short of his eighth birthday — when he was hit crossing a roadway near Broadway and West Pine Street.

Authorities say a tow truck driven by William Sackett, 32, of L a nt a na was t r av- eling north on Broadway and making a left turn onto Pine Street when the child stepped into the roadway.

T h e F l o r i d a H i g h w a y Patrol is investigating the crash, including whether alcohol was a factor.

Neighbors on Thursday d e s c r i b e d J o r d a n , wh o attended Lantana Elementary School, as friendly and outgoing. A person visiting a memorial set up near the crash site said Jordan was close to celebrating his eighth birthday.

One neighbor who asked that his name not be used said Jordan and other kids from the neighborhood frequently gathered near his home to play basketball.

“He always had a smile on his face,” the neighbor said. “He was very athletic, energetic, always wanting to play.”

The account to pay for Jordan’s funeral expenses is online at GoFundMe.com. Search for “Jordan Johnson funeral services.” As of Saturday afternoon, nearly $7,000 of the targeted $10,000 had been raised.

Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Kirk Road in Lake Worth said Saturday it is handling the funeral arrangements. The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a celebration of Jordan’s life at 7 p.m., a funeral home spokesman said.
