Ex-Cardinal Newman star hires agent, enters draft

Wake Forest forward Collins is coming offff standout season.

Wake Forest forward John Collins has changed his mind about retaining his college eligibilit­y.

The former Cardinal Newman standout has decided to hire an agent and will enter the NBA draft, he announced via Twitter on Wednesday night.

“After long conversati­on with my family, I have decided to enter the NBA draft and also hire an agent. I would like to (thank) everyone at Wake Forest that was instrument­al in my progressio­n to the young man I am today. I will always bleed black and gold and do my best to represent the university in the most positive way possible. #GoDeacs”

Collins i s coming off a standout sophomore season in which he averaged 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds. He was runner-up in voting for ACC Player of the Year and also was a fifirst- team All-ACC selection.

T h e D e m o n D e a c o n s earned an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament, falling to Kansas State in a First Four game. Wake Forest fifinished 19-14.

As a Cardinal Newman s e n i o r i n 2 0 1 5 , C o l l i n s averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds and was named The Post’s Small Schools Player of the Year.
