Leafs, Senators win in OT

Toronto, Ottawa play extra to grab 2-1 series leads.

Tyler Bozak scored 1:37 into overtime to cap Toronto’s comeback from two goals down in the second period, and the Maple Leafs beat the visiting Washington Capitals 4-3 on Monday night to take a 2-1 lead in the firstround series.

Au s t o n Mat t h e ws a n d Nazem Kadri each had a goal and an assist, and William Nylander also scored for Toronto. Frederik Andersen made 23 saves.

Toronto trailed 2-0 in the first period, and then 3-1 early in the second before Kadri and Nylander scored 4:07 apart late to tie the score in the final minute of the period.

A l e x O v e c h k i n , N i c klas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuz netsov all scored for the Capitals. Braden Holtby stopped 24 shots.

All three games so far have been decided in overtime.

Senators 4, (at) Bruins 3 (OT): Bobby Ryan scored on a tip-in on a power play 5:43 into overtime, and Ottawa recovered after giving up a three-goal lead to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series.

Ryan got free in the zone, tapping it in on assists by Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson. Mike Hoffman added two goals for Ottawa, with Derick Brassard scoring the other. Craig Anderson finished with 17 saves.

It was the second straight overtime game of the series, and second consecutiv­e win for the Senators following their 4-3 victory in Game 2.

The Bruins rallied from a 3-0 deficit with three goals in second period, tying the game on a power-play goal by David Pastrnak.

Noel Acciari and David Backes also scored for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask stopped 28 shots.

Blue Jackets: Defenseman Zach Werenski will miss the rest of the postseason because of a broken cheekbone. The rookie, 19, took a puck to the face on a shot by Pittsburgh’s Phil Kessel that opened a gash on his right cheek in the second period of Sunday’s Game 3.

Werenski left for medical treatment but later returned in the third period with a full facemask, only to sit out the overtime because severe swelling prevented him from seeing out of his right eye.

Oilers 1, (at) Sharks 0: Zack Kassian scored midway through the third period, and Cam Talbot made 23 saves in his second straight shutout as Edmonton won Game 3 of their first-round series to take a 2-1 series lead.

David Schlemko’s clearing attempt was intercepte­d by Kassian in the slot, and Kassian beat Martin Jones with a backhand to make it 1-0 with 9:15 to play.

Penguins 5, (at) Blue Jackets 4 (OT): Jake Guentzel had a hat trick, including a goal at 13:10 of overtime, as Pittsburgh took a 3-0 lead in its first-round playoff series.

Guentzel is the first Pittsburgh to rookie to get a playoff hat trick.

Canadiens 3, (at) Rangers 1: Alexander Radulov had a goal and an assist as Montreal took a 2-1 series lead in its playoff series.
