Seminoles have two freshmen already primed for the NFL
Unlike their basketball brethren, footballers cannot jump to the pro ranks after a single collegiate season.
That’s a good thing for the Florida State Seminoles, who would have a pair of “oneand-done” prospects if the sport allowed them, accordi ng to Bl e a c her Repor t ’s Kerry Miller.
Running back Cam Akers, ranked second in the entire 2017 class by 247Sports Composite, currently has the fourth-most pro potential of all true freshmen.
The Clinton, Mississippi, native dazzled during his prep days with 8,140 passing yards and another 5,103 yards on the ground. He threw for 78 touchdowns and rushed for 71 more.
During the Seminoles’ spring game, Akers led all rushers in yards (87 on 10 attempts), average (8.7) and longest carry (35).
His explosiveness and athleticism are second to none,” Miller wrote. “With Dalvin Cook offff to the NFL, there’s a legitimate chance that Akers is the starting running back as a freshman.”
Defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, already a mountain of a man, checks in just behind Akers with the fififthmost NFL-readiness of the 2017 class.
Arriving in Tallahassee by way of Houston’s Episcopal High, Wilson already boasts a 6-foot-4, 332-pound frame. For re f e re nc e , Dol phi ns standout defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is listed at 6-foot-4, 305 pounds.
“Granted, Mar v i n Wil- son needs to convert some of his baby fat into grownman muscle,” Miller noted. “But as far as raw height and weight are concerned, the soon-to-be freshman is big enough for the NFL draft.”
247Sports ranked Wilson as the top defensive tackle and sixth recruit overall. He tallied 200 tackles, 71 tackles for loss and 42 sacks in high school.
Al a b a ma was t he o nl y other school with multiple players on this eight-man list. Linebacker Dylan Moses Bradenton-IMG Academy), offffffffffffensive tackle Alex Leatherwood (Pensacola-Washington) and running back Najee Harris all made the cut.
Stanford offffffffffffensive tackle Foster Sarell, Ohio State cornerback Jeffffrey Okudah and UCLA defensive end Jaelan Phillips rounded out the list.
