Police: Delray teen taunted man as he shot him to death on street

DELRAY BEACH — A Delray Beach j uve ni l e a c c us e d o f g unni ng down a 21-year-old man shouted “How do you like me now?” as he pumped shots into the victim’s body, according to an arrest report obtained by The Palm Beach Post.

Steny Louis, 17, was arrested on a first-degree murder charge Sunday in the death of Einstein Mondesir, who was killed Saturday on Ilene Court in the Lucaya Delray neighborho­od, just east of Interstate 95 and north of Linton Boulevard.

Louis is listed on the arrest report as a 10th-grade student at Atlantic High School. He is being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center in West Palm Beach. as an adult. If he is, Louis would be the second juvenile charged as an adult with first-degree murder this year in Palm Beach County.

A witness told Delray Beach police Mondesir attempted to get away by circling a vehicle with Louis in close pursuit.

A second witness said he heard a loud pop, then cries of “Ow! Ow! Ow!” presumably uttered by Mondesir. That exchange was followed by several more shots from a firearm with an extended magazine, the witness told police.

Mondesir had several gunshot wounds to his midsection and his body was “surrounded” by spent shell casings, the report said.

Police were told that Louis fled with two other people in a silver vehicle, and surveillan­ce-camera video captured a silver Saturn station wagon speeding from the area just after the shooting. The video also provided police with the vehicle’s license tag number, which was traced back to Louis’ home on Southwest 14th Avenue.

Police took a witness to the home in order to identify the Saturn. While officers were there, Louis walked out of the residence.

“That’s the guy that shot,” the witness told officers.

Louis was taken into custody. While being driven to the police department, Louis allegedly told officers that he “was just defending myself ” when he shot Mondesir. Asked what he meant, Louis replied, “I was just trying to leave
