Central’s Davis wins pair of silvers at state meet

Palm Beach Central track standout Karimah Davis c apped her high school career last weekend with a pair of silver medals at the Florida High School Track and Field State Championsh­ips.

The competitio­n was held at IMG Academy Stadium in Bradenton.

Davi s , a Fl or i da S t a t e signee and 2016 Palm Beach Post Girls Track Athlete of the Year, was the runner-up in the girls 4A 200-meter and 400-meter events.

S h e f i n i s h e d t h e 2 0 0 meters in a time of 23.87 seconds. Champion Symone Mason of Miami-Southridge won the event in 23.48.

Mason also won the 400 meters in 52.69 seconds, just ahead of Davis at 52.98.

Davis, who was named the Palm B e ach C ount y S p o r t s C o m m i s s i o n ’ s Female High School Athlete of the Year in March, won three individual events at the Palm Beach County Championsh­ips last month.

Several other Palm Beach C o u n t y a t h l e t e s p l a c e d among the top four at the state meet last weekend.

In Class 4A, Atlantic junior Christian Brown fifinished fourth in the boys 110-meter hurdles, Jupiter freshman Ali Del Re was fourth in the girls 3,200-meter run and Park Vista junior Atorian Perry was fourth in the boys long jump.

In Class 3A, Palm Beach Lakes junior Gurvan Hall, who will play football at UM next fall, fifinished third in the boys Class 3A 110meter hurdles, and Dwyer junior Roodolph Antoine placed third in the boys 100-meter dash.

In Class 1A, Jupiter Christian junior Josh Skielnik was fourth in the boys 1,600- meter run; FAU sophomore Robert Ramsay was third in the boys 300-meter hurdles; Pahokee sophomore Deonte Nelson was fourth in the boys 400-meter dash; Pahokee junior Antwanique Kinsler fifinished fourth in the girls 400-meter dash; Benjamin sophomore Jesse Martin pl a c e d four t h i n the girls 100-meter dash; and King’s Academy senior Kevin Shaw fifinished third in the boys pole vault.

In relay competitio­n, the Pahokee girls won a state c h a m p i o n s h i p i n t h e 4 x 4 00 - mete r re l ay a n d p l a c e d s e c o n d i n t h e 4 x 1 00 - meter re l ay. The P a h o k e e b o y s f i n i s h e d second in the 4x100-meter relay and the Benjamin girls placed fourth in the 4x800-meter relay.

In team competitio­n, the King’s Academy boys tied for sixth in Class 1A, while Pahokee was 12th. The Blue Devils girls were seventh overall in Class 1A, while Benjamin was 10th. In Class 3A, the Dwyer boys were 14th overall. In Class 4A, the Palm Beach Central girls fifinished 12th.
