It’s the slowest period of the college football calendar, and stories of real news value are hard to come by. Sometimes we blog about The Rock’s political ambitions. Sometimes we write sentences like this:

If the Hurricanes can ride a stout defense and what some believe is a favorable schedule to the College Football Playoffff — a scenario that Fox Sports considers a possibility — Mark Ri c h t wi l l c l i mb higher in CBS Sports’ coaches rankings.

Richt checks in at No. 15 in the power ranking of Power Five head men, up three spots from last year.

CBS wrote: “It’ll be interesting to see how our perception of Richt changes during his tenure at Miami. He’s clearly respec ted as one of the best coaches in the country, but if he goes a few more seasons without an ACC title I’d expect him to slide down rather quickly.”

ACC peers ahead of Richt on the list: Louisville’s Bobby Pet r i no ( No. 1 3) , Fl or i da State’s Jimbo Fisher No. 4) and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney ( No. 3).

This will not be a discussion point when the league conducts its spring meetings this week in Amelia Island.

Notre Dame’s spot on future schedules: Just in case anyone needed it, the ACC released a few future dates — 20 years in the future — for its football partnership with Notre Dame.

Miami, which visited South Bend last year and hosts the Irish this year, will travel to Notre Dame in 2024 and 2028, as previously reported. Last week, the ACC added 2037 to that list.

Players not currently alive will play in the 2037 game. Ahmmon Richards will be 39. Richt will be 77.

The Hurricanes host the Irish in 2017, 2025 ... and as announced last week, in 2032 and 2034.

Don’t delay: Make your travel plans now.
