Bond, James Bond: South Florida snowbird?

- By Larry Aydlette, Kevin D. Thompson Palm Beach Post Staffff Writers

The death of Roger Moore is a reminder of how closely Her Majesty’s Secret Service agent James Bond is tied to Florida.

He’s practically a snowbird.

His license to thrill (and kill) has always extended to the Sunshine State:

“Dr. No”: Bond battles the evil genius doctor, whose world domination plan centers on toppling missiles taking offff from Cape Canaveral.

“G o l d f i n ge r ” : B o n d , James Bond, on the beach, Miami Beach. The Fontainebleau. Auric Goldfifinger cheating at cards poolside. Odd Job and that sharp hat. Beautiful blonde Shirley Eaton … smothered to death in gold paint. Considered by many to be the greatest Bond fifilm. So good we’ll even forgive 007’s crack about listening to the Beatles with earmuffffffffffffs. Of the famed Fontainebleau, Bond cracks, “I knew M wouldn’t book me into the fifinest hotel in Miami Beach out of pure gratitude.”

“Thunderball”: Bond s ave s Mi a mi f ro m b e i n g blown up by SPECTRE.

“Moonraker”: A fourminute boat chase scene in which Bond (well, Roger Moore’s stunt double) is pursued by three other craft was fifilmed in the St. Lucie River. The producers said the site was chosen because of its similarit y to the Amazon River in Brazil, where much of the movie was fifilmed.

“License to Kill”: Timothy Dalton’s Bond parachutes into a Keys wedding in “License To Kill,” where he also meets M at the Hem — Ernest Hemingway’s Key West home.

“Casino Royale”: Daniel Craig’s Bond chases a baddie through the Miami airport (though it wasn’t fifilmed on the airport site.)
