Scooter Gennett hit four home runs, matching the major league record, and finished with 10 RBIs in the Cincinnati Reds’ 13-1 rout of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

Gennett, 27, became the 17th player to homer four times in one game. A second baseman/outfielder who was claimed off waivers from Milwaukee in March, he began the night with 38 career home runs in five seasons, including three this year.

Josh Hamilton was the last player to hit four homers in one game, for Texas against Baltimore in May 2012.

Gennett singled his first time up and then homered in four straight at-bats, including a grand slam. His 10 RBIs tied Cincinnati’s club record.

Rockies: Chad Bettis rejoined the team and began throwing after finishing treatments for testicular cancer. The righthander, 28, had surgery in November to remove a testicle and rejoined the team in February, but left again in March to get chemotherapy after doctors found the cancer had spread. He hopes to return by the All-Star break.

Marlins: First baseman Justin Bour was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle injury. Also, catcher Tomas Telis was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Rangers: First baseman Mike Napoli (lower back) was placed on the 10-day DL and left-hander Dario Alvarez (left elbow strain) was reinstated from the DL.

Braves: Right-hander Bartolo Colon was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strain in his left side.

Blue Jays: J.P. Howell was placed on the 10-day DL with tightness in his left pitching shoulder. Left-hander Jeff Believeau was called up from Triple-A.

Cubs: Closer Wade Davis was activated from the paternity list and right-hander Dylan Floro was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Astros: Right-hander Joe Musgrove (right shoulder discomfort) could come off the disabled list Sunday and start against the Angels.

Phillies: Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt said center fielder Odubel Herrera can be a team leader as he “becomes more comfortable with the language.” Schmidt drew criticism for saying in a radio interview that Herrera’s language barrier prevented him from being a player the team can build around. Herrera, a Venezuelan native, was an All-Star in 2016.
