Man charged in car burglaries after roomie led cops to him
A 21-year-old man faces multiple charges for his alleged role in a string of car burglaries last year west of the city, according to court documents.
Jesse H. Carriker was remanded into the custody of the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office during a hearing Tuesday. He initially was arrested in April on burglary and grand theft charges and released under supervision.
On Monday, Carriker was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on additional counts of possession of stolen credit cards. Carriker bonded out Tuesday night.
Jail records indicate Carriker currently lives in Stuart but previously resided in suburban West Palm Beach. He was wanted in connection with four vehicle burglaries that occurred in January 2016 in a community southwest of Palm Beach International Airport.
At the time, deputies spoke to Carriker’s roommate, Shane Doorlag, who confessed to his role in four burglaries. According to a sheriff ’s arrest report, Doorlag told investigators he and Carriker had gone out on nights to do “hit licks,” street terminology for burglaries.
The burglaries occurred within a half-mile of Doorlag and Carriker’s residence on Ben Eden Lane, south of Southern Boulevard and west of Haverhill Road. Doorlag was arrested shortly after the alleged crimes on burglary and petit theft charges.
In May 2016, he was sentenced to a year in jail and credited with 113 days of time served, according to court records. During the investigation, Doorlag told investigators many of the stolen items could be found in Carriker’s room. Deputies obtained a search warrant and found a stack of driver’s licenses, credit cards, cellphones and personal information that belonged to other people, according to the report. The men went out at night and targeted unlocked vehicles, police said.
