Boynton leaders trying to pull fast one

-

The City Commission of Boynton Beach seems to be using subterfuge to do things with tax money that seem unlikely to stand up to legal scrutiny.

Shuffling from one board to another, at the same meeting, simply by changing their nameplates, has all the appearance of trying to quickly cover up an expenditure of millions of tax dollars, simply at the whim of five people, pushing a pet project. (“Boynton Beach to start Town Square project with saving historic school,” Monday)

If the idea of the massive building project for downtown Boynton was such an outstanding proposal and feasible financially, there would be developers running around with private-sector money, wanting to be a part of it. Instead, the commission wants to spend millions on refurbishing the old high school, trying to jump-start their idea of what “Downtown Boynton” should look like.

So what happens if they do start, and the idea turns out to be a total fiasco? And Boynton is stuck with a partially rehabbed structure, unusable as a halfway done project, and no income from it to even finish it.

Changing nameplates so that supposedly two city groups show support, is like having Congress pass laws, and then don black robes, to serve as the Supreme Court, to verify the new laws as being constitutional.

Our CRA needs to be a separate board of local business leaders, with the experience and common sense to handle our tax money.
