The Detroit Tigers put designated hitter Victor Martinez on the 10-day disabled list because of an irregular heartbeat.

Martinez came out of Thursday’s win over Tampa Bay in the seventh inning with a racing heartbeat, dizziness and cold sweats. He was treated in the clubhouse for dehydration, but was taken to the hospital when the symptoms continued.

Martinez, 38, was still hospitalized Friday as the doctors tried to find the cause.

“It’s a little scary,” manager Brad Ausmus said. “I think there’s a little bit of an unknown factor, which is causing more anxiety than anything else.”

The Tigers called up catcher/first baseman John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo.

Cubs: Switch-hitting outfielder/infielder Ben Zobrist was put on the 10-day DL with an inflamed right wrist. Infielder Tommy La Stella was recalled from Triple-A.

Mets: Juan Lagares was placed on the 10-day DL. The outfielder broke his left thumb trying to make a diving catch Thursday. Among those already on the DL for the Mets were ace Noah Syndergaard, closer Jeurys Familia, right-hander Matt Harvey, shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and third baseman David Wright. Infielder Matt Reynolds and outfielder Brandon Nimmo were promoted from Triple-A.

Marlins: First baseman Justin Bour was reinstated from the 10-day DL after he missed eight games with a bruised left ankle. Catcher Tomas Telis was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans.

Braves: Left fielder Matt Kemp is listed as day to day with a sore left hamstring and hopes to avoid the 10-day disabled list for the second time this season.

Rangers: Right-hander Tyson Ross was activated for his Texas debut following offseason surgery, and first baseman Mike Napoli and center fielder Carlos Gomez are coming off the DL. Texas also recalled lefthander Dario Alvarez from Triple-A, reliever Tony Barnette (right ring finger) was placed on the 10-day DL, utility men Ryan Rua and Jurickson Profar were sent to Round Rock, and righthander Dillon Gee was designated for assignment.

Rockies: Catcher Ryan Hanigan was optioned to Triple-A to make room for catcher Tom Murphy, who was reinstated from the 10-day DL after recovering from a broken right forearm sustained March 11 during a spring training game.

Nationals: Pitcher Edwin Jackson agreed to a minor league contract following his release by the Orioles. The right-hander, 33, allowed seven runs (four earned) and 11 hits in five innings for Baltimore. An All-Star in 2009, Jackson is 93-114 in 275 starts and 89 relief appearances over 15 MLB seasons. Manager Dusty Baker said Jackson will report to Triple-A and could be used as a starter or reliever. He was 10-11 in 31 starts for the Nationals in 2012.

Brewers: Keon Broxton’s 489-foot homer at St. Louis on Thursday was the longest home run in Busch Stadium III’s history.

Athletics: Third baseman Matt Chapman, a first-round draft pick in 2014, went 0 for 3 with two walks in his MLB debut Thursday night after being called up.
