Fowler plays chip on eighth green

-

Don’t try this at home. Or at your home course.

Faced with the option of putting through the rough or pulling out a wedge and chipping off the eighth green on Saturday, Rickie Fowler chose the latter.

It didn’t work all that well. Fowler pitched the ball to about 18 feet, then missed the next putt on his way to a bogey. It dropped him two shots off the lead and, to add insult to injury, it will still count as a three-putt.

Fowler came back to birdie the par-3 ninth to get back to one shot back, then went 2 under on the back nine for a 4-under 68. He’s alone in fifth place at 10 under.
