Learn How Prostate Cancer Can Be Treated Successfully — In A Single Day! — With HIFU
If you catch any Major League Baseball highlights later today, you might notice that all the players, managers, coaches, trainers, umpires and groundskeepers were wearing blue wristbands and blue ribbon uniform decals.
That’s because, as has become the tradition on Father’s Day, MLB wanted to get out an important message: the need for all men to be aware about prostate cancer.
It’s a disease that one out of every six men will be diagnosed with at some point in their lifetime.
But what to do about it if you or a loved one is diagnosed?
The traditional treatment options — including radiation, surgery or active surveillance (formerly “watchful waiting”) — all carry significant potential side effects.
Pain.
Incontinence.
Impotence.
Erectile dysfunction.
But Dr. George Suarez — a Miami-based urologist — has dedicated his entire career to providing men an alternative to those risky and often unsatisfactory choices.
“Unsuccessful prostate cancer treatments have ruined too many lives,” said Dr. Suarez. “Not only do the men suffer, but so do their wives, families and loved ones. This disease would cause too much collateral damage — even when it was ‘cured’ with radiation or surgery.”
Known the world over as one of the pioneers of high intensity focused ultrasound treatment for prostate cancer — aka HIFU — Dr. Suarez was instrumental in demonstrating to the FDA via successful clinical trials that HIFU was a viable alternative. Dr. Suarez should know: He spent more than a decade successfully treating THOUSANDS of men outside the U.S. with HIFU. Thanks to Dr. Suarez’s tireless efforts, HIFU became FDA-approved in October 2015 and is now available in the U.S. — including at Dr. Suarez’s International HIFU Centers office in Miami.
Dr. Suarez is so passionate about HIFU because he believes so strongly in the myriad advantages that the procedure offers. Among them:
■ It’s a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure.
■ There’s no cutting, no bleeding and no “scatter effect” into healthy tissue.
■ The recovery is very rapid and men return to normal activities within days.
■ There’s minimal risk of urinary or sexual side effects, especially when done as a focal treatment.
■ Therapeutic ultrasound waves pass harmlessly through intervening tissue and destroy only the targeted tissue.
■ There’s minimal catheter time following treatment.
■ It can be performed either as a partial or focal treatment. ■ It’s repeatable if necessary. Dr. Suarez has been featured in local (Miami Herald), national (Huffington Post, Time magazine) and international media outlets for his groundbreaking success with HIFU.
But the most heartfelt testimony of his work’s impact comes from his patients themselves. For instance, after Dr. Jay Newman — a medical doctor in his own right — learned of his prostate cancer diagnosis, he said, “I thoroughly researched all my options. I selected HIFU over all the other options because of the success rate and the data on the clinical outcomes.”
Dr. Newman couldn’t be more satisfied with his decision: “My HIFU procedure was simple, quick and I am very, very happy with the results. There was absolutely no pain, plus I was able to ambulate well immediately after the procedure.”
Likewise, Randy Hice — a leading authority in laboratory informatics whose job it is to analyze new technologies to determine if they are both innovative and follow good science — opted for HIFU with Dr. Suarez when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011: “I had the procedure done on a Sunday — and was back at work the very next day. And now six years later, I am in fantastic health and feel great.”
These are but two of the countless men who either have been, or one day will be, the beneficiaries of Dr. Suarez’s skill and innovation with HIFU.
“My ultimate goal is for every man who is ever diagnosed with prostate cancer to think of HIFU treatment FIRST,” Dr. Suarez. “It’s the best — and, in my opinion — ONLY advisable treatment for this disease.”
