Indians manager Terry Francona was admitted to Cleveland Clinic for tests and missed Tuesday night’s game against the Padres.

Francona, 58, was hospitalized twice last month after becoming lightheaded and having a rapid heart rate. He was fitted with a heart monitor last week and said at the time doctors had ruled out any serious health issues.

Team President Chris Antonetti said Francona did not experience the previous symptoms again and the tests are being done to help determine what’s causing the issue.

Bench coach Brad Mills is running the Indians in Francona’s absence.

Athletics: Franklin Barreto, 21, is the youngest A’s player to hit a walk-off homer since Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx did it at age 20 in 1928.

Yankees: Second baseman Starlin Castro may miss Tuesday’s All-Star Game because of his strained right hamstring. Castro went on the disabled list June 27 and manager Joe Girardi said Castro won’t start running hard until Thursday.

Braves: Slugger Freddie Freeman returned earlier than expected from a broken left wrist and has moved across the diamond from first base to third base.

Orioles: Closer Zach Britton is expected to be activated today. Britton, who has been on the disabled list since April with a left forearm strain, was 47 for 47 in save chances last year and had a 0.54 ERA in 69 games. He is 0-0 with five saves and a 1.00 ERA in eight games this season.

Cubs: Outfielder Jason Heyward was activated from the 10-day disabled list. Heyward cut his left hand sliding for a foul ball in right field at Pittsburgh on June 18.

■ Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber, who was demoted last week, could return from the minors on this six-game homestand. “I wouldn’t expect it to be too much longer,” director of player development Jaron Madison said. Schwarber was batting .333 with four homers in nine games at Triple-A. The Cubs host Milwaukee on Thursday and Pittsburgh in a weekend series.

Marlins: Left-hander Jeff Locke (0-5, 8.16 ERA) was designated for assignment after giving up 11 earned runs in 2⅔ innings Monday. Reliever Drew Steckenrider was recalled from Triple-A.

Angels: Starter Alex Meyer was sent to Triple-A, a day after the right-hander allowed six hits and five earned runs in five innings.

Giants: Right-hander Matt Cain is 0-7 in nine starts since May 15.

Dodgers: Pitcher HyunJin Ryu was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left foot contusion.

Noteworthy: Angel Hernandez, a big league umpire since 1993, has sued MLB, alleging race discrimination. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati, Hernandez alleges MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre “has a history of animosity towards Hernandez stemming from Torre’s time as manager of the New York Yankees.” As evidence of the alleged discrimination, the suit cites Hernandez’s lack of World Series assignments in the past decade and baseball not promoting Hernandez to crew chief.
