A 20-year-old Boca Raton man is accused of leaving a 14-year-old child with severe head trauma after punching the teen during an argument last month, Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office records show.

Calvin Darius pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated battery on a child and causing bodily harm or disability on June 28, two days after his arrest.

The state is expected to file charges against Darius on July 27, according to court records. Darius was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on June 27 on $10,000 bail.

According to the affidavit showing probable cause for his arrest, Darius is a personal trainer who stands 5-foot-11, weighs 180 pounds and is a “very muscular person with a large amount of strength.” The teen, by comparison, had “very little muscle mass.”

The argument concerned where the teen would spend the night, according to the affidavit.

Darius struck the child in the back of the head as the child walked away.

The blow knocked the child to the ground and onto a raised curb. The teen required stitches for a gash to the head, according to the report.

Darius refused to speak to arresting deputies, according to the report.

Following his arrest, deputies determined he met the requirements for an involuntary mental-health examination, the affidavit said.

Darius allegedly told deputies that “my life is over” and “I’ll kill myself if you arrest me.”

After he was placed in a patrol car, he said, “I’ll end this one way or the other and you can’t watch me all the time,” according to the affidavit.
