A lack of traditional afternoon thunderstorms has left temperatures running an average of 3.2 degrees above normal during a 19-day heat streak where highs have peaked at 90-plus in West Palm Beach and lingered there longer.

Today could be the first time since June 23 that the mercury won’t hit 90 as squally leftovers from a tropical depression sweep clouds and rain across South Florida.

Despite scattered showers Wednesday, the temperature still briefly reached 90 degrees at Palm Beach International Airport.

July is traditionally the driest month of South Florida’s rainy season, meaning sparser showers, less cloud cover and temperatures that stay warmer later in the day, said Robert Molleda, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Miami.

“This year, the pattern seemed to kick in a little early, around late June,” Molleda said. “Instead of surpassing 90 degrees for a couple of

The Mazda was located Monday night parked outside a Motel 6 at 1310 W. Lantana Road. The vehicle was registered to Angela Lavallo, who was found inside a room along with Marcherno and Pierre-Paul.

During questioning, Lavallo admitted being in the Mazda at the time of the shooting. She told the PBSO that Marcherno got out of the vehicle just before she heard a gunshot.

Pierre-Paul told the PBSO that he followed VanMeter into the alleyway because Marcherno wanted to speak with him. Pierre-Paul said he was an unwilling participant and that he should not have allowed Marcherno back into the car.

But the report states that Pierre-Paul turned off the car and lights after finding VanMeter in the alleyway and that Pierre-Paul never attempted to call 911 or render assistance.

During an interview with detectives, Marcherno first said he was with friends in Orlando at the time of the crime.

Marcherno then changed his story after seeing the surveillance video and claimed VanMeter had asked if he sold drugs. Marcherno said he confronted VanMeter to ask why he thought Marcherno was a drug dealer when a physical confrontation ensued. Marcherno said he was grabbed around the neck, causing him to pull out a gun in self-defense and shoot VanMeter in the chest.

Marcherno admitted he then grabbed VanMeter’s cellphone and money and fled the area in the Mazda.

The report states that Marcherno’s story “is not consistent with the evidence.” An autopsy ruled that VanMeter was shot in the back while facing away from Marcherno. Marcherno also did not have an explanation why he robbed VanMeter, the PBSO said.

Online fundraising pages seeking to raise $15,000 for VanMeter’s funeral expenses support for his girlfriend and child had raised roughly $1,700 as of Wednesday afternoon.
