TEEN FACES CHARGES AS ADULT IN CARJACKING
WEST PALM BEACH—A West PalmBeach teen is being charged as an adult in a reported carjacking near Good Samaritan Medical Center, according to city police.
Javon Hollins, 17, was transferred to the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday following his Sept. 5 arrest on allegations of armed carjacking, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
City police say that, on the night of Sept. 4, Hollins stole a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta at gunpoint. At one point, he led police on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph, according to an arrest report made public Thursday.
A 31-year-old Hobe Sound man told police investigators he had stopped on the 400 block of 13th Street, just west of the medical center, when Hollins pointed a black handgun at him and ordered him to step out of the vehicle.
Hollins was accompanied by am an in his 40s who climbed into the passenger seat, the accuser told police. The arrest report neither identifies Hollins’ accomplice nor says whether that person has been arrested.
According to the report, Hollins put the gun to the accuser’s forehead and demanded his cellphone. He climbed into the driver’s seat moments later and sped west on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.
The pursuit ended in the area of Seventh Street and Division Avenue as Hollins and his accomplice got out of the vehicle and ran. Police K-9 and helicopter units canvassed the area before finding Hollins hiding nearly naked nearby in the backyard of a home on the 800 block of Sixth Street, the report said. He said he took off his clothing because he was getting bitten by bugs, the report said.
