NFL SUSPENDS CHICAGO LB TREVATHAN TWO GAMES

Trevathan delivered illegal hit to head of Packers WR Adams.

The NFL has suspended Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan for two games for his frightening hit against Packers receiver Davante Adams during Thursday night’s game in Green Bay.

The league announced the punishment Saturday. Trevathan has three business days to appeal the suspension.

Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter after getting hit in the head during a tackle by Trevathan. The game was delayed for about 5 minutes while medical personnel tended to Adams. He tweeted Friday he was at home and “feeling great.”

Trevathan was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty following Adams’ 8-yard catch but was not ejected from the Packers’ 35-14 victory. He is eligible to return following Chicago’s game against Baltimore on Oct. 15.

Meantime, coach John Fox called it too early to make an announcement on removing starting quarterback Mike Glennon in favor of rookie Mitchell Trubisky or veteran Mark Sanchez.

“I think, as I’ve referenced, the quarterback gets a lot more credit and a lot more blame than they deserve,” Fox said. “We’re looking at everything and we’re not in a big rush to do anything about it because we don’t have a game until next Monday night.”

The Bears (1-3) resume play at Soldier Field on Oct. 9 against the Vikings.

Glennon has a passer rating of 76.9 and is 93 for 140 for 833 yards with four touchdowns along with five interceptions and three lost fumbles. He threw two interceptions against the Packers, lost a fumble on a sack and had another snap ricochet off his knee for a lost fumble.

Trubisky was drafted second overall and has yet to see action through four games. Fox called him a “young player” after the game and Friday said it’s difficult to say if he is ready to play.

Seahawks: Police acted appropriately and professionally detaining Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett when he ran from a casino as officers searched for an active shooter following a report of gunfire at an after-hours club on the Las Vegas Strip, the head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.

A review of hundreds of videos, including police body-worn cameras, found no evidence the three officers who had direct contact with the NFL star early Aug. 27 profiled Bennett by race or used excessive force, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said.

Bennett committed no crime, the sheriff said. But he was detained at gunpoint, handcuffed and seated for about 10 minutes in the back of a patrol car while police searched the crowded casino just hours after the Aug. 26 bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor.

Cardinals: Coach Bruce Arians said starting left guard Mike Iupati will have to undergo surgery to remove a bone spur in his triceps area and is expected to be sidelined at least eight weeks.

Arians says Iupati had been trying to return from the injury but the spur has broken off and is cutting into a tendon. The coach says it needs to be repaired before the tendon is cut in half.

Defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche will miss today’s game with San Francisco after re-injuring a calf in practice Thursday. Guard Alex Boone is out with a pectoral injury.

Falcons: Will be without four starters when they host the Bills today. Safety Ricardo Allen will miss the game with a concussion sustained on a hard hit to Detroit receiver T.J. Jones last week. Outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. (hamstring), right tackle Ryan Schraeder (concussion) and defensive lineman Courtney Upshaw (ankle/ knee) will all miss their second straight games with injuries sustained against Green Bay in Week 2.

Packers: Could have Ty Montgomery back sooner than expected. The running back’s rib injury is not as bad as the Packers initially thought, according to ESPN. Green Bay lists Montgomery as day to day, and with 10 days in between games, he could play against the Cowboys in Week 5.

Chiefs: Outside linebacker Dee Ford and center Mitch Morse have been ruled out for Monday night’s game against Washington. Left tackle Eric Fisher is expected to be a game-time decision.

The Chiefs also waived kicker Cairo Santos with an injury designation.

Panthers: Center Ryan Kalil (neck), cornerback Daryl Worley (shoulder) and wide receiver/returner Curtis Samuel (back) have been ruled out for today’s game at New England.
