WEST PALM BEACH — An unemployed Belle Glade man was charged Sunday morning at a hearing with attempted first-degree murder with a gun and is being held without bond.

Eddie Holland, 39, was arrested in connection with a shooting on July 15 in Belle Glade after one witness told officers Holland shot a 40-year-old man.

The witness told a Palm Beach County sheriff ’s detective that Holland was sitting at a table on a sidewalk having a few drinks and talking, but the conversation turned ugly. Holland got up, walked away from the table, but within five minutes returned with a small revolver. After an exchange of words, the witness said, Holland pointed the gun at the victim, but it didn’t work. Holland pulled the trigger a second time, shooting the man in the chest.

Holland fired again, this time hitting the victim in the lower back area, the witness told the detective.

The victim was taken to Lakeside Medical Center by the witness and was later taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.

According to the police report, the victim identified Holland as the shooter.

At Sunday’s first appearance, the state attorney said Holland had 13 prior felony convictions, eight failures to appear and “many, many misdemeanors.” The attorney said Holland also once cut off his ankle bracelet.
