Report: Embiid gets 5-year, $148M deal

The Philadelph­ia 76ers and center Joel Embiid reportedly agreed Monday on a five-year, $148 million extension, the maximum based on the designated rookie scale. Embiid played in 31 games last season, averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.

Golf: Brendan Steele defended his Safeway Open title, closing with a 3-under 69 Sunday for a two-stroke victory over Tony Finau in Napa, Calif.

MLB: Paul Molitor and the Minnesota Twins agreed on a new three-year contract that will bring him back as manager. The Twins were the first team to make the MLB playoffs after a 100-loss season, rebounding from 59-103 in 2016 to go 85-77 in 2017.

NHRA: Alexis DeJoria, the first woman to break the 4-second barrier in a Funny Car, said she will retire from NHRA competitio­n at the end of the season at age 40.

Soccer: Iceland qualified for the World Cup for the first time after beating Kosovo 2-0 on Monday. Iceland is the smallest nation in terms of population — 330,000 — to make the World Cup.

TV: ESPN anchor Jemele Hill was suspended by the network for two weeks for making political statements on social media. ESPN also announced that for the first time in 10 years, there will be no 24-hour basketball marathon to mark the start of the college season this year.

Tennis: Juan Martin del Potro reached the second round at the Shanghai Masters, beating Nikoloz Basilashvi­li 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
