Gators suffer another frustratin­g home loss

The Florida Gators suffered their second consecutiv­e frustratin­g home SEC loss, falling 19-17 to Texas A&M on Saturday night in the Swamp.

With the game tied at 10 late in the third quarter, Gators quarterbac­k Feleipe Franks scrambled and weaved his way for 79 yards deep into A&M territory.

Dre Massey then raced 6 yards around right end on the first play of the fourth quarter to give the Gators (3-3, 3-2) a 17-10 lead, but the Aggies (5-2, 3-1) took control from there.

Daniel LaCamera kicked three of his four field goals in the fourth quarter, the final coming from 32 yards with just 58 seconds remaining to give A&M a 19-17 lead.

Tyrel Dodson then intercepte­d Franks on the Gators’ next play. Franks completed 17 of 26 passes for 129 yards, but threw two intercepti­ons.

Malik Davis ran for 97 yards on 17 carries, and Lamical Perine rushed for 54 yards and a TD for UF.

Kellen Mond threw for 180 yards and rushed for 52 and a touchdown to lead A&M.

Last week, a missed extra point proved costly to the Gators in a 17-16 loss to LSU.

No. 18 USF 33, Cincinnati 3: Quinton Flowers threw for 184 yards and rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown, leading the Bulls (7-0, 4-0 American) over the Bearcats (2-6, 0-4) in Tampa. Darius Tice rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown for USF.

No. 22 UCF 63, East Carolina 21: McKenzie Milton threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Knights (5-0, 3-0 American) to the rout of the Pirates (1-6, 1-3) in Orlando. Greg McRae rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown for UCF. Four other players rushed for a touchdown for the Knights.

FIU 23, Tulane 10: Alex McGough threw for 220 yards and a touchdown, leading the Golden Panthers (4-2) over the Green Wave (3-3) in Miami. Shawndarri­us Phillips rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown for FIU.

Bethune-Cookman 12, South Carolina State 9: Uriel Hernandez kicked four field goals, and Delwaun Beard blocked a field goal try as time expired as the Wildcats (3-3, 2-1 MEAC) held off the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-3) in Daytona Beach.

Beard blocked Tyler Scandrett’s 36-yard try and Arthur Williams recovered the ball to seal the win.

Hernandez capped Bethune-Cookman’s opening drive with a 34-yard field goal, and later made kicks of 37, 32 and 33 yards, but missed a 20-yarder in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs led 9-6 at halftime after Scandrett kicked a 34-yard field goal and Trey Samuel ran four yards for a TD and the Wildcats blocked the point-after attempt. The Wildcats outgained the Bulldogs 371261 but couldn’t get the ball into the end zone and were stopped twice on downs.

Former Village Academy star Larry Brihm Jr. was 22 of 34 for 234 yards passing for the Wildcats. Diquan Richardson grabbed his third intercepti­on of the season.

North Carolina A&T 31, FAMU 20: Lamar Raynard threw three touchdown passes, and the Aggies (7-0, 4-0 MEAC) scored 21 points in the second quarter to grab a 28-6 halftime lead and coast over the Rattlers (2-5, 1-3) in Tallahasse­e.
