BOYNTON BEACH — An armed man was arrested Oct. 12 after he was found hiding inside the clubhouse of a gated community in suburban Boynton Beach, according to an arrest report.

When Palm Beach County sheriff ’s deputies attempted to detain Garrick Arsenio Haughton, 27, he allegedly hit one in the chest, then fled. Deputies deployed their Tasers twice on Haughton, but he wasn’t detained until he was bitten by a police dog, the report said.

Haughton, of Boynton Beach, is facing charges of armed burglary, battery on an officer, resisting an officer with violence, possession of a weapon by a felon and two counts of resisting an officer with violence.

He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail on $21,000 bail.

Haughton was found by an employee of the Cascade Lakes community, south of Woolbright Road and west of Military Trail, inside the clubhouse at about 11 p.m. When deputies showed up, they found Haughton inside a billiards room, the report said.

Deputies said that Haughton fled, stopping long enough to get rid of a handgun they say he was carrying. When a deputy moved to get the gun, Haughton allegedly struck him in the chest, then ran. Two Taser strikes proved ineffective, the report said.

Haughton eventually was arrested on Wycombe Avenue within Cascade Lakes, but not before he allegedly resisted another deputy. A police dog subdued Haughton.

“While Garrick was talking about the pain from the dog bite, he made a spontaneous utterance that the Taser was nothing compared to the dog bite,” a deputy wrote in the arrest report.

Haughton was taken to a hospital, where he was treated before going to jail.

Records show that Haughton served more than 15 months in prison after he was convicted in January 2013 of robbery and possession of cocaine.
