West Palm consultants to unveil traffic solutions
WEST PALM BEACH — After months of studying downtown’s traffic problems, the city’s team of consultants are set to reveal their findings and potential solutions.
The public is invited to City Hall at 6-8 p.m. today to hear urban consultants Alta Planning + Design and Gabe Klein, give their take on what the growing city needs to do to make life easier for commuters, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Increasing traffic affects residents, business owners, visitors and real estate development.
Mayor Jeri Muoio, who will be on hand at the meeting, has engaged a series of consultants to explore ways to make the city more livable and walkable. At the same time her administration has pressed to rezone sections of West Palm to encourage office tower construction downtown, as well as larger commercial buildings along arteries as Dixie Highway and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.
The mobility study, which began earlier this year, examined many aspects of transportation, including driving, parking, walking and biking. A charrette in June attracted hundreds of residents.
The meeting is meant to blend those ideas with the other study results and spell out plans for immediate and mid- and long-term implementation.
