WEST PALM BEACH — A man who had been living at the Seminole Manor housing development west of Lantana is charged with attempted murder in a shooting there last month.

Terrance Jenkins, 28, was booked Saturday evening into the Palm Beach County Jail, records show. His address was listed as Dothan, Ala.

Jenkins is charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was convicted in 2006 on a first-degree robbery charge in Alabama, a Palm Beach Countysheriff ’s report noted.

On Sunday morning, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Gregory M. Keyser ordered Jenkins remain held without bond, rejecting a public defender’s request for $50,000.

According to the sheriff ’s report, around 1 p.m. on Oct. 25, deputies found De’Aundre Ward, 21, in the road in front of his home, a single gunshot wound in his back. He said Jenkins had shot him and drove off.

Ward was taken to Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, where he was in stable condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit as of the Oct. 25 report. Ward’s current condition couldn’t immediately be learned Sunday.

The report said deputies found seven spent 9-millimeter shell casings in a parking lot and then found a woman who said she was Jenkins’ girlfriend and that Jenkins had argued with Ward.

Ward later told an investigator Jenkins had sent him a text message accusing him of being antisocial and the two had arranged to meet outside to work things out.

He said the talk escalated into an argument and Jenkins pulled out a handgun and shot him. He said while only one shot struck him, he believed Jenkins fired sev- eral shots.

Jenkins is believed to have driven off in the girlfriend’s black Dodge Charger.

The girlfriend said Jenkins later called her several times but she said she could not speak to him because of the shooting. While deputies still were talking with her, a cousin of the girlfriend called her to say her car was in the cousin’s driveway in Fort Lauderdale, some 40 miles away.

Documents do not indicate how Jenkins came to be in custody Saturday. Court and jail records do not show any previous cases for him.

A prosecutor said in court Sunday that he had no criminal history in Florida.
