Self-storage facility may go on Indiantown

Demolishing a single-story vacant building on Indiantown Road at Commerce Way and replacing it with a self-storage building with 700 units is up for consideration at Tuesday’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

The Ellison Graphics 21,000-square-foot building is on the south side of Indiantown Road across from the Jupiter Medical Center Urgent Care Clinic.

The proposal, by Pinnacle Storage LLC, of Hilton Head, S.C., calls for replacing the structure with a three-story, climate-controlled building that would be 97,500 square feet.

Traffic will not be a problem, said Pinnacle President Christopher Perry. The company has other locations in South Florida. The Jupiter location would be the first for the company in Palm Beach County, he said.

“Self-storage buildings are not big traffic generators,” Perry said. “People generally come when they drop off and pick up their possessions. It’s not like a restaurant.”

Construction is expected to start in the spring and take about a year. Land purchase and construction costs are expected to be about $13 million, Perry said.

The planning commission makes recommendations to the Town Council, but the council is not bound by the recommendation. The town council is scheduled to vote on the project on Dec. 19.
